Very disappointed :(
One of the worst movies I've ever seen
Yo, there's no way for me to review this film without saying, take your *insert ethnicity + "ass" here* to see this film, like now. You have to see it in order to know what you're really messing with.
This is an astonishing documentary that will wring your heart while it bends your mind
Seriously my best friend recommend this to me about a week ago. She also recommended me Riverdale but I don't find riverdale intresting enough for me so I started watching Harper's Island. First episode left me thinking they're too dumb to notice, hence they'll always be "distractions" and many characters that appeared to be the suspect . The best part of the movie is the character's development . For instance, Shane, at first he's an asshole to everyone . But then he died to protect the girls so they could escape .He realized a lot of shit he's done wrong.I'm proud of him .Moreover, I missed Chloe and Carl, for me they're the best couple in the series. I cried like a bitch when Chloe jumped to be with Carl . Man I'm still crying . They were so sweet,he even proposed to her ,Carl saved sherriff's life. Man there's a lot more I'd like to say but this review would be long ass shit. Lastly ,I like how Jimmy stared at Trish when she was at the cliff ,like a damn suspect but well turned out the most cheerful guy is the killer! There's a quote that says "the man who smiles sweetly is always a pyscho" . I'd like to thanks my best friend for reccomending this series to me. I really enjoy watching it . =)
I started watching this after seeing the commercial for it. It looked creepy so I thought I would like it. After the first episode I saw that the producer was Jon Turteltaub and I remembered that he made that other awful series Jericho. Harper's Island is okay to watch once, just because there are nice different ways of murders. For the rest it was pretty annoying, especially the soundtrack and the sound effects. It felt like I was watching one of those endless soap series. A shot with a couple of medium actors, spice it up with some awful music, fade out with some awful piano music, go to next shot, repeat everything until the end of the episode. The murders where the only good thing in this series. The story itself is just predictable and the actors are just average actors. Watched it once and then deleted it.
My thoughts tend to echo what many have said here. It's starts off fairly run of the mill for a couple of episodes and the end of disc 1 and all two - so up to episode 7, is pretty decent, you think you're onto an OK show. From then on, it is pitiful. You've ignored some of the clichés up to here, but they wipe out every one in the book within a few episodes. I really am amazed episodes 8-12 inclusive were ever approved for broadcast, it's total nonsense. An grey haired, ageing, late 50s killer armed with a small knife is near invincible, taking on anyone, of any strength, even with an arsenal of guns and coming away on top, showing the speed of Usain Bolt to get around and coming out away looking like he's on his way to a job interview.Totally absurd and baffling decisions are made, nobody makes any attempt to swim or row away from the island, they're all quite happy to leave a serial killer physically fully able and 20 yards from away with only some bars separating them while they chuckle and chatter away in the police station.Of course you can clock, hours from the end the clichéd last characters who will be left and who'll survive. Why not show some imagination and have had one or two of the lesser characters have got away, or separately made their way off the island, just to offer something different? In fairness, the final episode isn't awful and does tie up a previous five hours of total nonsense together pretty well in the end, but this was a missed opportunity to have created a decent show that offered something different from the stereotypical teen slasher drivel. Unfortunatey, it was every bit as bad by the end.
OK so this review has a couple of small spoilers but I do not reveal who the killer is!My brother was obsessed with this show and demanded I watch it, so I bought the DVD and started watching it one day...and finished watching it the same day! I couldn't stop watching it, I was hooked after the first episode. When I first turned it on I really had no idea what it was, my brother had just said it's about a killer who kills someone every episode and you have to guess who it is. It sounded like my type of show. In a nutshell, thats the plot! Trish and Henry are getting married on Harper's Island, which was where Henry and his best friend Abby grew up, although the island has been plagued by sadness since a killing spree seven years ago by the evil John Wakefield, whose victims included Abby's mother. I found the flashback scenes terrifying, when Abby found her Mum hanging in the tree my heart broke for her, it was so sad! They are joined by their friends and family, and the first few eps concentrates on the lead up to the wedding (although at the end of each ep someone is killed). It's not until around episode 5 that everyone realises that something is terribly wrong, when the Trish's father is killed in a spectacular fashion in front of everyone! Then it's basically a fight for survival, everyone is stuck on this island with a maniac on the loose. I did not guess the killer. My gosh talk about a shock. I pretty much considered everyone else, but when the killer was revealed my jaw hit the floor, I could not freaking believe it. No one that I know who watched it correctly guessed the ending.I loved all the characters and the actors who played them. I was really rooting for them to survive, especially my favourites Cal and Chloe. And i have to add, the island was fantastic, minus the murders it would have been a great place to get married, and it made the perfect setting for the show.Honestly, I could rave about the show all day, it was brilliant. I love a good horror/thriller, and I am so sick of reality TV, this made for a great change.I wished they would make another series, this was such a fantastic show!
