Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
bearsfan-40806 It is a good family movie. I've seen a lot of reviews of people trying to compare it to Twister or saying it's a cheap rip or knockoff of the big motion picture movie Twister, but once again it's not. For those who don't or haven't done much reading in their lives of course would automatically assume this is just a straight to TV movie rip on Twister because they don't realize this movie, Night of The Twisters, is actually based on the book of the same name. So yes the tornado scenes aren't the greatest. But that is expected as those are actually not the dominant force in the movie and book. So if you're looking for a good family movie then this is a movie you should check out! But if you're expecting anything like Twister or high quality CGI and every little nuance of tornados down to sounds or how they act, then skip this movie as you'll dislike the movie.
John Doe Night of the Twisters is a 1996 film based on the book of the same name written by Ivy Ruckman. It is about a family trying to survive a series of deadly tornado attacks.I first saw this film way back in 1998 by renting the VHS tape after I had read the book. This was also my first film that introduced me to Devon Sawa (who is a phenomenal actor by the way!) The film is based on the 1980 Grand Island tornado outbreak. Even through it takes place Dannebrog, Nebraska, it was actually filmed in Kleinburg, Ontario, Canada. The film has a great cast from Devon Sawa as Dan Hatch (he was also in Idle Hands, The Boys Club, and Final Destination), Amos Crawley as Arthur Jones (who is best known as Chuck Greene from the Goosebumps: The Haunted Mask episodes), and Laura Bertram as Stacey Jones (from Are You Afraid of the Dark? episodes). The film was released on VHS by GoodTimes Video and later released on DVD by the same company (the DVD is really rare.) The movie is better then the book IMO. I give Night of the Twisters a 7 out of 10.
Uriah43 This is one of three "tornado movies" filmed in 1996. The other two were "Twister" and "Tornado". Having said that, I don't believe that this one is as good as the other two. That's not to say that this movie is necessarily bad, it's just that the other two were more intense while "Night of the Twisters" seemed to focus more on family dynamics than anything else. Be that as it may, there was definitely some suspense here and the special effects were pretty good for the most part too. Along with that, I think it's important to also realize that the blockbuster film, "Twister" was made for the big screen (and general audiences) while "Night of the Twisters" was a made-for-television film intended for family audiences. In short, if you're looking for a good "tornado film" then you might want to check out the other two I mentioned earlier. However, I suppose this one is okay for a rainy day if there's nothing better to watch. Slightly below average.
disdressed12 as TV movies go,this one is pretty good.the special effects are,for the most part, well done.however, the film dwells not so much on the Twisters which descend on as small town, but more on the dramatic area, such as how the relationship between father(John Schneider)and son(Dewon Sawa)changes throughout the course of events.it also deals with the aftermath of the destruction. We do see some twisters, but not as many as you might hope.a lot of the movie shows destruction taking place without actually showing the tornadoes.the acting is a bit suspect, not so much with main characters, but with minor characters such as the newsman reporting on the weather.not very believable,at all.there are also some dialogue issues, such as being corny, and clichéd,or downright ridiculous.the way some of the characters(again, thankfully minor characters)behave during the crisis and what they say is not realistic for the situation. However, the film is still quite watchable and not at all boring,so i give "Night of the Twisters" a strong 6/10
